What are they feeling and expressing based on the nonverbal behavior you are observing?
Now, watch the show with the sound turned on.
What assumptions did you make about the characters and plot based on the ways in which you interpreted the communication you observed?
Would your assumptions have been more correct if you had been watching a show you know well?I chose the movie "Date Night" I have never seen the movie...At the beginning of the movie there was a scene that they were inside the office of her job and their body language showed that they were arguing--she was swinging her arms and her eyebrows were raised--he was looking frustrated and he was standing still listening. I figured that they were arguing about where to find the files to find the couple-- The Tripplehorns-- When I looked at the scene with the sound she was arguing about him leaving the drawers open she had banged her leg on the drawer to the filing cabinet. She then goes on to say that he never closes drawers in the house and they start talking about marital issues. I assumed that they were trying to find a faster way to get the files because the alarm and lights went off when they broke the glass to the office. I was not familiar with the movie so that is was why I made that assumption.

This is a GREAT movie! I have seen this movie quite a few times and enjoy it. The body language that these two main characters have towards each other and the facial expressions they give, even without sound you can tell what they are thinking and how they are feeling towards each other and others in the movie.
ReplyDeleteHello Iris,
ReplyDeleteWhile I haven't seen many movies, this is on that I am actually familiar with and can recall the scene you mentioned easily. I can see how you would have made the assumption you did from the with the volume off, because it appeared that they could have been arguing over something pertaining to what was going on in that moment.
This was an interesting assignment because as I watched my show of choice I realized how important non-verbal communication is and how loudly it speaks in any conversation.
